Made Open

“If we really believe we are fighting for a peoples’ peace, all the rest becomes easy.” — Henry A. Wallace

We are building solutions.

Solve our own problemsOwn our solutionsOwn our resourcesOwn our future

Made Open is a movement to take back control of our data. Data is the most powerful resource on earth — unlimited, exponentially valuable, and your basic human right to own. What privacy was to the last decade, agency is to this one: if you don’t own your data, someone else decides what your tools, your assistants, and your future do on your behalf. We’re not writing manifestos. We’re building the substrate — a user-owned platform for everything that acts for you. Same rules. Better competition. We are hacking capitalism.

The problem has two faces.

Extraction took your past. Agency capture is coming for your future. Both are the same problem: you don’t own your data.

Face 1 — Your past

They came for your past.

Every tap, scroll, pause, and purchase generates data. Platforms collect it, package it, and sell it. Your location history, your search patterns, your private messages — all monetized without your knowledge or consent. The digital economy was built on extraction.

The people who create the value don’t share in it. Signing terms-of-service isn’t the same thing as agreeing.

Attention is the scarcest asset in the knowledge economy — and it is being taken from you.

Airbnb15-20%Your data sold
TaskRabbit15-30%Your data sold
Fiverr20%Your data sold
Etsy~20%Your data sold

Face 2 — Your future

They are coming for your future.

A new generation of AI assistants will soon act on your behalf — screening your messages, scheduling your meetings, deciding who gets through. Useful. But every one of them lands your email, your calendar, your memory, and your identity inside a system you don’t control.

Platforms already took your past. They captured your present with attention. They are now competing to shape your future.

Privacy asks who can see your data. Agency asks who can shape what you do next. Data ownership is how you answer.

The platform that owns the assistant owns the conditions under which you decide and act.

We can use their game and their resources to build alternatives that make them irrelevant. Not by fighting them — by making them unnecessary.

Past. Present. Future.

Platforms took your past. They captured your present with attention. They are now competing to shape your future. Data ownership is how you stop the pattern — your past, your present, and your future, all under your control.

The PastData

The Immutable Record

Every call, message, email, location point, and document — stored permanently, queryable, searchable.

The PresentAttention

Your Current State

Where you are right now. Real-time context that powers rules.

The FutureIntentions

What's Coming

Calendar, tasks, commitments. Proactive intelligence.

The Principle

Data ownership is the boundary around your agency.

Privacy asks who can see your data. Agency asks who can shape the conditions under which you decide and act.

Without data ownership, someone else holds your memory, your identity, your rules, and the authority under which actions are taken on your behalf. That isn’t a privacy failure. It’s an agency failure.

Own the substrate, and anything that acts for you — assistants, apps, other people — does so inside limits you define.

The foundation. The outcomes.

One user-owned substrate. Three kinds of freedom it makes possible.

The Foundation

A user-owned data platform

“A substrate for anything that acts on your behalf.”

Your communications, your memory, your rules, your identity — all land in infrastructure you control. The floor under your digital life, not a service you rent.

  • Unified inbox — calls, SMS, email, voicemail, video
  • Full phone system with IVR builder and call recording
  • Email client with AI compose, priority scoring, thread summaries
  • Video meetings with transcription and action item extraction
  • Rules engine that evaluates in <100ms — explicit policy, not heuristics
  • 28 AI agent tools with RAG and knowledge graph
  • Plugin sandbox — per-capability, logged, revocable
  • Zero-touch setup: download → import wallet → running

Outcome — Economy

A Made Open economy

“Same rules. Better competition.”

A zero-fee peer-to-peer economy where the people who create value capture 100% of it. No platform. No middleman. No extraction.

  • Sell data products — your data, your terms, privacy engine strips PII
  • Sell services, goods, and skills directly — 0% platform fees
  • Smart contract escrow — trustless payments, no intermediary
  • Time banking — 1 hour of any service = 1 credit, always
  • Resource coordination — offers, needs, and mutual aid matching
  • Federated discovery via ActivityPub — no central server
  • Portable reputation via W3C Verifiable Credentials
  • Community dispute resolution — not corporate arbitration

Outcome — Community

Self-governing communities

“We can allow the market to guide them to their irrelevance.”

Real democratic tools for real communities. DAOs, federation, self-sovereign identity — governance without corporate platforms.

  • Community DAOs with charters and treasuries
  • 5 voting systems: majority, supermajority, quadratic, consensus, liquid democracy
  • Proposal lifecycle — draft → discussion → vote → execute
  • Federation via ActivityPub — your hub is a Fediverse server
  • Self-sovereign identity with DIDs — not platform usernames
  • DIDComm encrypted messaging — no corporate relay
  • 7-domain reputation system with time decay and rehabilitation
  • Community treasuries fund shared goals — not corporate profits

Outcome — AI

Assistants that work for you

“Not the other way around.”

Bring any assistant or agent. It runs inside boundaries you define — scoped context, logged actions, explicit permissions. Replace it, remove it, or run many. The substrate is yours, not theirs.

  • Scoped context — assistants see what you decide, not everything
  • Explicit policies — rules evaluated before any action
  • Logged actions — every proposal and write, auditable
  • Revocable capabilities — no assistant accumulates power it can't lose
  • Portable memory — your history doesn't belong to the assistant
  • Bring any AI — replaceable workers, not the system of record
  • Works with OpenClaw, future AI frameworks, and plugin-based agents
  • Agency as a security boundary — the full argument on stage at DEF CON

Their game. Our rules.

The market will guide them to their irrelevance.

Their Way

  • Your data on their servers, behind their APIs
  • Your identity is a username they can revoke
  • They sell your attention to advertisers
  • 15–30% platform fees on every transaction
  • They write the rules — no appeal
  • Banned? Lose your history, reputation, everything
  • Reputation locked in their silo
  • AI can't see your data across services
  • Your assistants run in their system — they own your memory
  • 'If you don't like it, leave' (and lose everything)

Our Way

  • Your data on your server, queryable, exportable, yours
  • Self-sovereign identity — cryptographic DID you control
  • You control your attention. Period.
  • 0% fees — there is no platform between you
  • Community writes the rules. Transparent. Open appeal.
  • Your data follows you forever — federated, portable
  • Portable reputation via W3C Verifiable Credentials
  • AI has full context — all your data is unified
  • Your assistants run in your substrate — you own your memory

A peaceful revolution in three phases.

We can do this now, both easily and peacefully.

Phase 1Years 1-2

Early Adopters

Privacy-conscious individuals, open-source enthusiasts. Self-hostable platform.

Phase 2Years 3-5

Communities & Cooperatives

Community organizations, managed self-hosting, data cooperatives.

Phase 3Years 5-10

Mainstream Adoption

Credible alternative to Google/Apple/Meta, zero-knowledge hosting, federation network effects.

We are hacking capitalism.

Same rules. Better competition. Built by the People, for the People.
